Mohali, April 4: Vicky Middukhera Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded in memory of popular student leader Vicky Middhukhera by his elder brother Ajaypal Singh Middukhera, as part of its mission to combat drug abuse and work towards a ‘Drug-Free Punjab,’ collaborated with Chappar Chiri Kalan Panchayat to organise a campaign against the drugs’ problem. The event was held at the Dharamshala of Chappar Chiri Kalan, District Mohali. The motive was to zero-in on major issues being faced in villages in regard to drug abuse and to find solutions to counter the menace. SSP Mohali, Deepak Pareek, attended the campaign as the chief guest, while SP Mohali Manpreet Singh and singer Mankirat Aulakh participated in the campaign as guests’ of honour.
SSP Mohali emphasised that the Mohali police were geared up to go all out against drug peddlers and dealers and that the force is asking members of the public to feel free to contact police officials regarding any issue related to the drugs problem in their area.
The event brought together the village sarpanch and panchayat members to address the alarming rise in drug abuse among the youth. Discussions focused on key issues, effective preventive measures, and strategies to tackle this growing crisis at the grassroots level.
Speaking on the occasion, Ajaypal Singh Middukhera stated, “Drug abuse has become a serious concern in Punjab that needs to be addressed with utmost priority. It’s like a silent poison, relentlessly eroding Punjab’s foundation day by day. In view of this, we have organised a session as part of our campaign against drugs, to bring together different voices to explore effective solutions and preventive measures to fight against drug abuse at the ground level.”
Mankirat Aulakh commended Vicky Middukhera Foundation’s initiative against drugs and said that youth of Punjab should shun drugs as the menace was ruining the state and youngsters.
Ajaypal Singh Middukhera further highlighted that his Foundation plans to conduct dedicated counseling sessions across villages in Punjab, with the support of volunteers and medical professionals, to guide drug addicts on their path to recovery and rehabilitation.
Harmandeep Kaur Hundal, Sarpanch of Chappar Chiri Kalan, said, “Vicky Middukhera Foundation’s campaign is the need of the hour as there is an alarming rise in drug abuse in Punjab. Many families have been destroyed as their children fall victim to drug addiction. Like any other emergency, this issue needs to be addressed with grave concern. Immediate action is required to safeguard the youth of Punjab and our communities.”
The panchayat members also adopted a resolution against drugs at the event. The panchayat members informed volunteers of Vicky Middukhera Foundation about the problems being faced in regard to the drug menace and what all was needed at the village level to fight the problem.
