- Fatehgarh Sahib, October 13, 2020: Accused in the two sacrilege incidents of tearing pages of Guru Granth Sahib in Fatehgarh Sahib district yesterday, was today presented in the court of Varun Deep Chopra JIMC duty Magistrate amid tight security.SSP Fatehgarh Sahib Amneet Kondal had deputed a large contingent of police personnel outside the court complex to avoid any untoward incident.Lawyers and members of Sikh outfits had gathered in large numbers outside the court and raised slogans against him and demanded the death sentence for him.The police sought his remand for a week, but the duty magistrate granted police remand for three days up to October 16.Earlier, members of the district bar association strongly condemned the two incidents of sacrilege and demanded exemplary punishment for the accused.Amardeep Singh Dharni and Gurpreet Singh Saini former president and secretary respectively of the District Bar Association said the members of the bar resolved that none of the advocates will appear for the accused.Interestingly, the offices of the DC & SSP remain flooded with the representatives of various social, religious and political organisations, who submitted representations demanding strict action.Didar Singh Bhati halka incharge SAD (B), Simranjit Singh Mannof SAD (A), Manvir Singh Giaspura of Loak Insaf party of Bains brothers, Adhoc Committee of District Bar Association, Satkar Committee, Singh Sabhas and Beopar Mandal demanded thorough probe to unearth the conspiracy.They said exactly five years ago on this very day the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib had occurred at Behbal Kalan and till today the culprits have not been punished.Kondal said that during search of accused’s residence in Nabha a prescription slip of a Patiala hospital, where he was undergoing drug de-addiction treatment for the last one year was recovered.SSP said that Police have registered FIR no. 294 & 295 at PS Sirhind u/s 295-A, 504IPC, 18, 20 UA (P) Act on the statement of Manjot Singh Sewadar of the Gurudwara Sahib of village Tarkhan Majra. Sources told that conceding to the demand of the protesting Sikh outfits and villagers on the recommendation of ADGP Law & Order Ishwar Singh UA (P) Act was added and the dharna was lifted, the traffic was restored on GT Road.SSP said that a thorough and open investigation has been ordered to be conducted in a transparent and impartial manner in association with the SGPC and the members of the Satkar committee.
