Letter issued to District Sports Officers; asked to ensure COVID appropriate behaviour

In view of rapidly declining corona cases, Punjab Sports, Youth Services and NRI Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on Wednesday directed the Sports Department to open all the stadiums of the state for the players desirous to participate in national and international sporting events.
Rana Sodhi, while instructing all the District Sports Officers, said that the state government has decided that the players aspiring to participate in national and international level tournaments should be given exemption to practice in the open stadiums as the corona cases have been sharply decreasing throughout the state. “The players and coaches would have to ensure compliance with the guidelines issued by the Health Department for the prevention of COVID-19”, the minister categorically mentioned. A letter in this regard has also been issued to all the District Sports Officers, he said.
The Cabinet Minister further added that Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh led state government was channelizing all its resources to keep the sports person ready for the sporting extravaganza of national and international repute and the sports department working day and night for providing conducive environment for the sports in the state besides engaging youngsters in constructive activities.
Meanwhile, Special Secretary-cum-Director Sports and Youth Services Mr. D.P.S. Kharbanda informed that the District Sports Officers have been asked to complete the arrangements for opening the stadiums for the players and ensure COVID protocols. “We are emphasizing on mental preparation as well as physical fitness of the players to prepare them for international competitions”, he added.
