₹10 Lakh Health Cover Under Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna to Protect Families From Treatment Costs: CM Bhagwant Singh Mann
CHANDIGARH; 22 October, 2026:
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Thursday opened Its doors of the Punjab Assembly to students, giving young people a first-hand understanding of how laws are made, budgets are passed and elected representatives are held accountable. Interacting with students of Guru Gobind Singh International School, Faridkot, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann urged them to dream big and pursue their ambitions through honesty and hard work, stressing that talent and merit, not influence or recommendations, must determine their future. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to merit-based recruitment and healthcare coverage of up to ₹10 lakh for eligible families under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna.
Interacting with students of Guru Gobind Singh International School, Faridkot, at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “The youth are the greatest strength of Punjab, and providing them with inspiration, opportunities and a progressive environment is essential for building a brighter future for Punjab. Never allow temporary setbacks to weaken your determination. The real measure of success lies not in where you come from, but in the honesty, hard work and commitment with which you pursue your goals.”
Sharing his own life experiences, the Chief Minister encouraged students aspiring to join the civil services or become advocates, doctors and defence officers to start working towards their goals today rather than waiting for the perfect moment.
Quoting former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann reminded the students, “True dreams are those that inspire a person to keep striving even when the world is asleep. Do not become disheartened by examination results or initial failures. I myself had lost my first election but continued to work with determination. Setbacks are not the end of the journey. They are opportunities to learn, improve and return stronger.”
Explaining the significance of the Punjab Assembly, the Chief Minister familiarised the students with the functioning of the state’s highest legislative institution. He explained, “Bills are introduced, debated and passed into law in the Vidhan Sabha, and the state budget is also approved here. Institutions such as the Vidhan Sabha belong to the people. Young citizens must understand how democracy functions, how decisions affecting their lives are made and how public representatives are accountable to the people.”
Recalling his own interest in parliamentary proceedings since childhood, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann shared how he had invited students to Parliament during his tenure as a Member of Parliament so that they could witness democratic institutions at work.
The Chief Minister stated, “My government is committed to building a Punjab where young people can fulfil their aspirations through talent and hard work rather than influence or recommendations.”
Emphasising the transformation in government recruitment, he added, “Public employment in Punjab is being provided on merit, giving deserving candidates a fair opportunity to serve the state. Every young person, irrespective of their background, must have the confidence that dedication, capability and perseverance can open doors to a better future.”
Highlighting his government’s commitment to public welfare, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann apprised the students of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, under which eligible families are being provided health coverage of up to ₹10 lakh. He stated, “Strengthening access to healthcare is an important part of ensuring that families are not forced to compromise on treatment because of financial constraints.”
The Chief Minister emphasised that his government is working to make essential services more accessible and improve the quality of life of the people of the state.
Calling on the students to establish clear goals and pursue them with complete honesty, discipline and dedication, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann stated, “Success comes to those who remain sincere towards their responsibilities and continue to work hard even when the path is difficult. Hard work undertaken with honesty never goes to waste. The message is clear: students should dream without fear, work without excuses and succeed without compromising their values.”
On the occasion, Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Kultar Singh Sandhwan and others were also present.
