CHANDIGARH, September 15:
In a major breakthrough against transnational organised crime amidst the ongoing drive to eliminate gangster networks in Punjab as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) has taken custody of close associate of Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi following his deportation from Canada, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said here on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Karamveer Singh, a resident of Village Bahadur Ke in Ludhiana, was apprehended by the AGTF team at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi upon his arrival.
The development came close on the heels of Punjab Police, with the assistance of Central Agencies, has secured the extradition of fugitive criminal Amritpal Singh alias Amrit Dalam, a key operative of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Gang, from the Republic of Moldova.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that accused Karamveer Singh had provided logistical support and a hideout to Anmol Bishnoi in the United States of America (USA). The accused was wanted in the FIR registered at Police Station State Crime, SAS Nagar, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Arms Act and Passport Act, he said.
The DGP said that a Look Out Circular (LOC) was initiated by AGTF Punjab on September 3, 2026.
Sharing more details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Promod Ban said that accused Karamveer Singh has an extensive criminal history across Punjab, involving at least five criminal cases related to murder, attempt to murder, armed robbery, extortion, Arms Act and other criminal activities.
The ADGP said that further investigations are underway to establish his operational connections, illicit funding channels, and linkages with other members of the gang.
