Gender ratio is improving due to awareness campaign
Various initiatives taken to honor daughters
Chandigarh, January 31
Efforts are being made by the Punjab government to ensure the survival, safety and education of girls and to improve the gender ratio. This was expressed by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur here today.
Giving further information, Cabinet Minister said that the main purpose of the department’s important campaign ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ is to protect, educate and people to ensure their safety. Under this campaign, efforts are being made to improve the gender ratio, as a result of which the gender ratio in Punjab has improved from 892/1000 in the year 2014-15 to 928/1000 during 2021-22.
She said that under this scheme, many initiatives have been taken by the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development at the village, block, district and state levels of Punjab. She said that a photo gallery has been established at the district administration complex Ferozepur to honor the local girl students of Ferozepur district who have excelled in the fields of academics, sports, music etc. under the ‘Meri Pehachan’ campaign. Apart from this, the achievements of girls have been shown through graffiti on three flyovers of Sangrur and many other districts have also taken this initiative so that girls can be given due respect.
