Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi held an important meeting with Deputy Chief Ministers; Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Om Prakash Soni, Cabinet Ministers; Dr Raj Kumar Verka, Sukhbinder Singh Sukh Sarkaria and Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and MLAs including Barindermit Singh Pahda, Harminder Singh Gill and Kulbir Singh.
While divulging details of the meeting, Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister Dr. Raj Kumar Verka said that the State Government is in constant touch with the Union Government regarding the students of Punjab stuck in Ukraine.
Dr. Verka said that more than one thousand students were stranded in Ukraine, out of which 75 percent students have been brought back to Punjab and now there are around 300 students who will be airlifted back to India in a day or two.
Dr. Verka told that a letter has been written by the Punjab Chief Minister to the Prime Minister to bring back dead-body of a Punjabi student who had died in Ukraine. He added that the Punjab Government is hopeful that the Union Government will look into it seriously and take his dead body back to India as soon as possible.
Dr. Verka said that the Chief Minister has decided to take necessary steps for the completion of the studies and degrees of medical students belonging to Punjab. He added that following the directions of the Chief Minister, he is in contact with the union ministers and IMA to make special provisions for completion of studies of these students.
Dr. Verka said that the meeting also condemned the reports claiming that the Punjab government was not taking any concrete steps in the matter of Ukraine Punjab students as the entire cabinet of Punjab was taking serious steps on this issue.
Dr. Verka said that in this meeting, strong objection was also raised on the termination of permanent membership of Punjab in Bhakra-Beas Management Board. He said Modi government has once again suppressed the rights of the states and Punjab government strongly oppose this and will take every step to save Punjab.
