Moga, 30 April – Senior IAS officer and Principal Secretary Mr D.K. Tiwari made a tour of the Moga Mandi today to inspect the procurement arrangements for wheat purchases. He expressed satisfaction over the procurement arrangements and lifting, with 90 percent of the wheat arrival of 531,376 MT already purchased and 2.63 lakh metric tons lifted. Before this, a meeting of relevant departments was convened to review the arrangements. Deputy Commissioner Mr Kulwant Singh and other officials were also present in the meeting.
During his visit, Mr Tiwari interacted with farmers, traders, and laborers in the Moga Mandi. He informed the farmers that arrangements had been made for the procurement and transportation of their crops. Additionally, he assured that efforts were being made to ensure smooth procurement processes and minimize inconvenience to farmers in mandies.
While giving figures, he stated that this year’s lifting was faster compared to previous years. He informed that 531,376 metric tons of wheat had been received in the district’s mandies, with 473,766 metric tons already purchased and 263,253 metric tons lifted. The total payment made in Moga district amounted to Rs. 959.47 crore, representing 117.94 percent of the total payment.
He said that the lifting pace had accelerated, with daily lifting exceeding 30,000 metric tons, surpassing the previous year’s record of 27,287 metric tons.
Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh appealed to farmers to trust the Punjab government and district administration, ensuring that they would not face any problems in the mandis. He assured that lifting would further accelerate in the next one or two days. He also held discussions with farmers, traders, and laborers at the occasion.
