Chandigarh, January 20: In a blitzkrieg on the opposition parties and leaders, the Chairman Sugarfed and former Lok Sabha MP Amrik Singh Aliwal today said that all the political parties of the country except the BJP need to take lessons from Captain Amarinder Singh on lending a solid supportive hand to the farmers movement by remaining in the background and carry on the struggle under the United banner of farmers.
In a press communique, S. Aliwal said that the most stellar role from amongst the political circles in the farmers agitation has been played by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh who realizing the woes of farmers, summoned the special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and passed three amendment bills in order to negate the three draconian farm laws enacted by the Union Government. “Captain Amarinder Singh didn’t allow any harm to befall the farmers during their seven month long protest in Punjab”, quipped Aliwal.
Pointing out further, the Chairman Sugarfed said that Captain Amarinder Singh held a series of meetings with the farmers unions who have deep respect for his valuable suggestions but alas, the Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP didn’t care for the interests of farmers and have never offered a serious advice on the farmers issues. “This explains why the BJP led Central Government couldn’t win the sympathy of the farmers instead being a subject of ridicule by the farmers owing to its double standards”, Said the former MP.
Lauding the farmers unions for continuing with their struggle in a peaceful manner, Aliwal also appreciated the appeals by Balbir Singh Rajewal and other leaders to this effect. He also exhorted the Union Government to shun obstinate attitude and exhibit statesmanship by acceding to the demands of the farmers.
