Project to include a tube-well and storage tank; 33,635 meters of pipeline to be laid; 1,472 new household connections to be provided

Project to be completed within one year

Development works worth around ₹150 crore underway in Sunam city; several projects already completed, others progressing at a rapid pace

Chandigarh/Sunam, October 2:

On the auspicious occasion of Dussehra, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, Cabinet Minister and Punjab President of the Aam Aadmi Party, Shri Aman Arora, extended festival greetings and presented a significant gift to the people of martyr Udham Singh’s hometown, Sunam Udham Singh Wala, in the form of a new water supply project.

To provide a permanent solution to the city’s drinking water problem, the Minister laid the foundation stone for a water supply project worth approximately ₹15.22 crore at Seetasar Road, Sunam. The project includes the construction of a tube-well, a 2 lakh liter storage tank, a 33,635-meter-long pipeline, and the provision of 1,472 new household connections for families without access to piped water. The project will be completed within one year.

Under this project, water connections will be provided in various areas: 250 at Tibi Basti, 50 at Namol Road, 100 at Guja Pir, 100 at Sai Colony, 100 at Mansa Road, 150 at Jagatpura Road, 200 at Preet Nagar (Kaccha Paha), 150 at Patiala Road, 50 at Bigarwal Road, 50 behind ITI, 22 at Chattha Road, 50 at Bhag Singh Wala Road, and 50 at Neelowal Road. Additionally, around 100 connections will be given in smaller localities, including Trali Union Road, Peeran Wala Gate, near the Telephone Exchange, near the Municipal Council Office, and other scattered parts of the city.

Addressing the gathering during the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Shri Arora said that the Punjab Government is committed to resolving people’s problems and is leaving no stone unturned in this effort. This project, he noted, is part of that commitment and will be executed within the stipulated timeframe, with no compromise on quality standards.

He added that relentless efforts are underway to transform Sunam into a model city, with development works worth about ₹150 crore. Several projects have already been completed, and the remaining ones are progressing rapidly.

“When intentions are honest, no obstacle can block progress, and all tasks are accomplished successfully,” Shri Arora remarked. He further said that the Punjab Government, working with sincerity and dedication, is making every effort for the state’s development. He asserted that the current government has achieved more during its tenure than all previous governments combined.

Highlighting that the demand for this water supply project had been pending for a long time, Shri Arora said that today, the longstanding wish of the people of Sunam is being fulfilled. He added that the scale of development taking place in the Sunam constituency has become a model for the entire state.

The Minister urged residents to personally monitor construction works and promptly bring any irregularities to his notice. He assured them that all development projects would be completed on time and dedicated to the public. He reiterated that the Punjab Government has already delivered exemplary work in its current tenure and is determined to further accelerate development.

On this occasion, the Minister also listened to public grievances, resolving several issues on the spot, while directing officials to address the remaining ones promptly.

In response to a media query regarding the prevention and treatment of vector-borne diseases in Sunam, Shri Aman Arora said that, alongside door-to-door surveys being carried out by Health Department teams, medical camps are also being organized across the city at a rapid pace. These measures, he said, are yielding positive results.

Those present on the occasion included SDM Shri Pramod Singla, SE Water Supply & Sewerage Board Shri G.P. Singh, DSP Shri Harvinder Singh Khaira, along with other officials, dignitaries, and a large number of city residents.
