Chandigarh, October 25:
With paddy arrivals in the mandies of the State yet to reach at their peak, payment of Rs. 10182.23 crore of Minimum Support Price has already been transferred directly into the accounts of nearly 2.75 lakh farmers. Disclosing this here today, Lal Chand Kataruchak, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister, stated that 17 districts in the State have transferred more than 100% payment of the due MSP, which is to be paid in 48 hours of purchase as per norms, 3 districts have disbursed more than 95% of due payment and remaining 3 districts have also made more than 85% of due payment. Mansa district, having transferred 125% of due payments as per 48 hours norms, is at the top.
He further stated that though it was Dusshera on 24th October, as many as 1 crore 20 lakh bags of procured paddy were lifted from the mandies across the State in a single day.
The Minister further said that State mandies are witnessing arrivals of nearly 5.3 Lakh MT of paddy in a day as of now, and almost all paddy arriving in a day gets purchased by the end of that day itself. As on 24.10.2023, less than two lakh MT has remained unpurchased across the State, which he said, clearly shows that in many Mandis paddy is being cleaned and purchased on the date of arrival itself.
He also stated that more than 55.88 LMT paddy has arrived in the mandies till 24.10.2023, out of which nearly 53.95 LMT paddy has already been procured. All arrangements of Bardana, Mandi labour and transportation are adequate across the state, he said. He reaffirmed the commitment of the State Government to purchase every single grain produced with the sweat and toil of the farmer.
