Ludhiana, October 15, 2020: In one of the biggest crackdowns on the illegal manufactured and supply of Pharmaceutical opioids, Ludhiana team of Punjab Police has recovered 99,600 bottles of intoxicant syrup (Chlorpheniramine maleate & Codiene phosphate syrup) , 22000 intoxicant tablets (Spasmo proxyvon plus, Tramadol and Alprazolam). The main recovery was made from Jaipur on 11-10-2020 by a Ludhiana Police Team.
Based on the directions of Dinkar Gupta DGP Punjab the gang was busted by a Ludhiana Police team, comprising of Jt CP Kanwardeep Kaur, ADCP Jaskaranjit Teja, ACP Jshandeep Singh, and SHO Dehlon Sukhdev Brar.
CP Ludhiana Rakesh Agrawal told that the first recovery was made when, one FIR No. 118/17-9-2020 u/s 22 NDPS Act 1985 PS Dehlon was registered against Dhamanpreet Singh and Ranjit Singh R/o Ludhiana. Both accused were arrested on 17-9-2020 and 22000 pills (Tramadol and Alprazolam), 50 bottles ( Chlorpheniramine maleate & Codiene phosphate syrups) and a swift car No. PB-10-GH-5150 were recovered from them.
During interrogation they revealed that they purchased these drugs from Arjun Dev and Gulshan kumar r/o Khairthal, Alwar, Rajasthan. Both the accused were nominated based on backward linkages as revealed during interrogation. Arrest warrants were got issued for both the accused and they were arrested from Alwar district of Rajasthan on 7th October.
Further During interrogation, they revealed that they further used to buy intoxicants from one person named Prem Ratan S/o Mahesh Kumar of Jaipur, Rajasthan. They also revealed that One Lakh syrup bottles have been secretly hidden at DPR transport Godown, Vegikal Choraha road, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Based on their revelations Prem rattan was arrested from Jaipur and was brought on 7 days police remand. On 11-10-2020 a team consisting of Punjab Police Ludhiana and FDA (Food & Drug Administration) Punjab raided the premises of main accused Prem rattan at Muralipura, Jaipur after procuring search warrant from the court of Sh. Vijay Kumar JMIC, Ludhiana and recovered 99,600 Bottles of syrup Welcyrex (Chlorpheniramine maleate & Codiene phosphate syrups). The worth of the recovered consignment is over 4 crores in open market.
CP added that although the initial recovery in this case was very less but Sustained and concerted investigations led to the unmasking of the backward and forward linkages of the unholy nexus and further revealed the involvement of various pharmaceutical manufacturing firms which are under investigation and further links are being followed up. These companies are making Prescription drugs and these drugs are extensively abused as pharma opioids by drug addicts all over the country.
CP Ludhiana added that Prem Rattan, the main accused, used to procure pharma drugs from various pharmaceutical manufacturing companies without having any valid legal licence. He used to further generate fake invoices in name of some medical stores, registered practitioners but re-route these drugs to smugglers at a higher price. The profit margin was very high as they used to sell them at three times the MRP. The pharmaceutical manufacturing companies who acted in connivance kept on supplying these consignments even to buyers without a valid license. Payments and transfer of money was mostly done through multiple cash transactions into bank accounts of fake firms, especially created for this purpose.
Police have recovered 99,640 bottles of Welcyrex Codiene phosphate syrups, 9000 tablets of Alprazolam, 10000 capsules of Tramadol, 3000 Capsules of Spasmo proxyvon Plus.
