Jalandhar, September 20, 2020: In a major breakthrough, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has busted an interstate racket of pushing illegal arms and ammunition to Punjab with arrest of seven members of the network from various districts besides seizing 12 pistols of .32 bore and 15 live cartridges.
The accused have been identified as Suraj (21) of New Rajan Nagar, Basti Peer Daad, Vijay Kumar (25) of Bhikha, Adampur Jalandhar, Jobanjeet Singh (22) of Arjan Maanga village, Amritsar, Sahil Saini (27) of Prem Nagar, Pathankot, Amritpal Singh (24) of Bhoma in Batala, Keshav Khera (23) of Hakimi Gate, Amritsar, and Harmandeep Singh (24) of Kheri Veer Singh, Fatehgarh Sahib.
Divulging about module of the network, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said after receiving information on September 9 regarding a person, who sustained bullet injury and undergone treatment at local Global Hospital, the police started a probe into the incident. The injured identified as Abhinav Misra of Pilibhit, UP was admitted in the hospital. He said that the Basti Bawa Khel police reached the hospital to look into the matter.
Bhullar further stated that during the investigation, it came to fore that Suraj had opened fires on Abhinav with the illegal weapon as he was suspecting that Abhinav used to cast lustful eyes on females of his family.
Commissioner of Police further told following leads, the cops nabbed Suraj who revealed in questioning that he along with Abhinav Misra had been supplying illegal arms and ammunition from Indore, Madhya Pradesh in Punjab for some time and already pushed huge quantity of weapons in Punjab.
“On their instances, the Commissionerate police busted the entire network and seized 12 illegal pistols of .32 bore and 15 live bullets besides arrested more accomplices from Batala, Amritsar, Pathankot and Fatehgarh Sahib”, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar added.
He said four pistols and nine live bullets, one empty shell was recovered from Suraj’s accommodation and maternal house in Jhajjar in Haryana, two pistols and two live cartridges from Jobanjeet and Amritpal, one pistol and two live bullets from Sahil and one pistol from Keshav, Vijay Kumar and Harmandeep Singh respectively.
The Commissioner of Police stated two criminal cases were already registered against Suraj, Jobanjeet and Keshav Khera, Vijay Kumar was facing eight criminal cases. He said Vijay Kumar and Jobanjeet were brought on production warrants from Kapurthala and Gurdaspur jails.
He disclosed that Sahil and Harmandeep Singh were graduates and others had passed matric and +2.
He said Suraj was now in police custody and Abhinav was undergoing treatment in hospital. Meanwhile, others were sent to judicial custody. He said Suraj is being interrogated by a team of senior police officials and more recovery of weapons can be expected.
Later, Abhinav will also be arrested once his condition improves and would be quizzed, he said.
Commissioner of Police said he would recommend DGP special coveted Disc award to the team of CIA- 1 headed by Harwinder Singh.
A case under sections 307, 188 of IPC, 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act, 3 of Epidemic Diseases Act and 51 of the Disaster Management Act has been registered in this case.
