-Dr. Balbir Singh Addresses Public on Drug Awareness
-Public Joins Hands to Build a Drug-Free Punjab
Patiala, July 23:
Reiterating the Punjab Government’s firm resolve to eradicate drug abuse, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today addressed residents during the Nasha Mukti Yatra conducted across Wards 7 to 13 in Patiala. Dr. Singh emphasized that drug addiction is not a personal issue alone, but a social ill that impacts entire families—economically, emotionally, and socially.
He cautioned that when even one family member falls prey to addiction, the burden is borne by the entire household. “It is our collective duty to extend a helping hand to those trapped in addiction and bring them back to the mainstream. If we fail to act now, the consequences will be far more dangerous for the generations to come,” Dr. Balbir Singh said.
Calling for united action, Dr. Singh appealed to citizens to lend wholehearted support to the campaign and contribute to making Punjab a leading and progressive state. He noted that the state government’s crackdown on drug traffickers is being implemented with full force, including the seizure of illegally acquired properties. The Minister stressed that the anti-drug initiative is now transforming into a mass movement, reflecting growing public support and awareness.
On the occasion, Dr. Balbir Singh also led residents in taking a pledge to support the anti-drug mission and urged them to actively cooperate with the administration and law enforcement agencies in building a drug-free Punjab.
Addressing the gathering, Malwa Zone Coordinator of the Nasha Mukti Morcha, Mr. Jagdeep Jagga, said that the movement launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has now become a full-fledged public campaign. “People from all walks of life are joining hands to combat the drug menace,” he added.
The event witnessed active participation from SDM Harjot Kaur, DSP Manoj Gorsi, Deputy Mayor Jagdeep Jagga, and Councillors Surjit Singh Abbalowal, Jasvir Gandhi, Kulbir Kaur, Shankar Lal, Neha, Shivraj Singh Virk, Nirmal Devi, Jhirmaljeet Kaur, Jai Shankar, Harpal Singh Virk, Jaswinder Singh, Ved Kapoor, and Ravinder Singh Ravi, along with a large number of enthusiastic local residents.
