Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu launched the three-day Pulse Polio Campaign by administering polio drops to children. A State-level function in this regard was held at Government Dispensary at Village Sohana. On this occasion, S. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that under the Sub-National Immunization Day (SNID) campaign, polio drops are being given to children across the State from November 1st to November 3rd. Due to the COVID pandemic, the campaign will cover only high-risk areas, migrant population, kilns, construction sites, slums, and settlements.
S. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that in this phase the target is to provide drops to 5,31,935 children across the State for which a total of 8436 locations have been identified. A total of 4,180 door-to-door medical teams have been formed to make the campaign a success in addition to 559 mobile teams deployed for the purpose. A total of 21143 vaccinators and 802 supervisors have been deployed to monitor the entire campaign. In addition, 2734 ANMs, 7696 Aanganwari workers, 8965 ASHA workers, and 2143 other workers will contribute to make this campaign a success.
On this occasion Director Health Services Dr. Manjeet Singh appealed to the people to give their full support to the health department in this campaign to prevent the re-entry of polio. Political Advisor to the Health Minister Harkesh Chand Sharma, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) Civil Surgeon Dr. GB Dr. Singh, State Immunization Officer Dr Balwinder Kaur, State Program Officer-NPCDCS Dr. Sandeep Singh, District Immunization Officer, SAS Nagar Dr Veena Jarewal, village panchayats, and other health officials were also present.
