The Mataur police station has issued a fresh notice to the former DGP of Punjab Police Sumedh Singh Saini to join the investigation in the Balwant Singh Multani kidnapping and murder case. A copy of this notice has been sent to Saini’s lawyer. He has been directed to appear before the special investigation team (SIT) on September 28 at 11 am.
Earlier, the former DGP was sent a notice on September 21 and was asked to appear before the SIT at the Mataur police station on September 23 to appear for investigation but he did not reach there. After this, on 25 September, the former DGP suddenly arrived in Mohali court to attend the investigation at Mataur police station. But the police officers had told him to join the investigation only when he is called.
He had recently got relief from the Supreme Court in the Multani case and appeared in the Mohali court requesting to withdraw his arrest warrant. As per the allegations, Balwant Singh Multani, a son of a former IAS officer was kidnapped and murdered by police on the directions of Saini in the year 1991 when he was the SSP, Chandigarh.
