Fatehgarh Sahib: Two incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib reported in two villages of the district

Fatehgarh Sahib. October 12, 2020 : Two incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib were reported in the Gurudwaras of the nearby villages Tarkhan Majra and Jallah today morning. The accused was nabbed by the Sewadar of the Gurudwara Sahib at Tarkhan Majra and made the announcement.The villagers gathered immediately, they damaged his Swift car number PB-34-7277 and beat him mercilessly. The police reached the spot and took him in custody, the irritated villagers gheraoed the Police Station Sirhind and disrupted the traffic on GT Road Sirhind. Long queues of traffic were seen on GT Road. As the report of the sacrilege reached nearby villages, the President of Gurudwara Sahib Village Jallah also went to see the Gurudwara Sahib and was surprised to see the “ Angs” of Guru Granth Sahib were also torn there. He reported the matter to the villagers and the police. SSP along with top police officials reached the spot and was supervising the interrogation of the accused. IG Patiala Zone Jatinder Aulakh and IG Ropar Zone also reached the spot.

Giani Harpal Singh head Granthi Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib, Bhai Gurpreet Singh Randhawa member SGPC, Karnail Singh Panjoli member SGPC, Bibi Mandeep Kaur Nagra wife of MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra, Didar Singh Bhatti SAD(B) halka incharge and heads of various Sikh outfits, Satkar Committee also reached there and joined the protest.

While talking to the media persons Malkiat Singh Granthi of Gurudwara Sahib Tarkhan Majra said that at about 11.00 AM a Hindu person entered the Gurudwara premises and Darbar Sahib was locked, he asked him to open the gate as he wanted to pay obeisance. He said that he directed his son to open the door as soon the person entered the Darbar Sahib, he tore the “ Angs” ( Pages) of Guru Granth Sahib. He said his son raised the alarm and nabbed him. He also rushed inside and made the announcement. He said the people gathered there and he was beaten and latter handed over to the police. He said that his car was damaged by the villagers.

Similarly the “ Angs” of Guru Granth Sahib were also found torn at Gurudwara Sahib of village Jallah. Devinder Singh Sarpanch of the village said that they rushed to Tarkhan Majra after as the news regarding the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib reached. He said that he asked the President of the Gurudwara at his village to check their Gurudwara Sahib and they were surprised to see the “ Angs” of Guru Granth Sahib were also found torn there. He said that the Granthi of the Gurudwara Sahib had gone to check his ailing wife and the doors of Darbar Sahib remain open. Sources told that the CCTV cameras installed there were not in working condition. A lady sitting outside the Gurudwara identified from photo that the same persons had come to pay obeisance in Gurudwara and he was involved in the sacrilege as he had come in white car.

SSP Fatehgarh Sahib Amneet Kondal said that two sacrilege incidents took place in the district at Village Tarkhan Majra and Jallah today morning. She said that police has arrested the accused, who has committed both the sacrileges and identified as Satnam Singh resident of Nabha. He has been booked u/s 295A, 504 IPC and two separate FIRs have been registered against him. She said that after getting police remand thorough interrogation will be taken out.
