Punjab Cabinet Minister Mr. Om Prakash Soni informed here today that Food Processing Department, Punjab has released a grant of Rs.1.21 crore to the processing units and universities under National Food Processing Scheme.
While addressing a press conference at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh here today, Mr. Soni said that Punjab Government was working expeditiously for further development in the field of food processing.
Mr. Soni said that the scheme One District One Product Scheme of Government of India is being implemented effectively.
This scheme would prove to be very beneficial for the small scale industries besides creating employment opportunities in the state, he added.
He said that the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh was working on a plan to organize the traditional processing industries like pickles, jaggery, papad, marmalade etc. operating in the state and sell them under one brand name.
He said that under this scheme a target of Rs. 14.84 crore has been set to be spent this year which would benefit 167 units associated with the food processing industry.
