₹20 Crore Tenders Issued for Road Construction in Patiala
– L&T and Departments Directed to Complete Road Repairs on War Footing
Patiala, June 26:
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav today visited Leela Bhawan Chowk to review the ongoing pipeline laying work being carried out for drinking water supply. She directed officials from L&T and water supply and sewerage board to complete the work before schools reopen in the first week of July.
Emphasizing the importance of the location, Dr. Preeti Yadav instructed that the work must continue round the clock. She noted that Leela Bhawan Chowk is a key traffic junction in the city, witnessing heavy daily vehicular movement, and must be made motorable at the earliest to minimize public inconvenience.
She also stressed the need for proper safety and information measures at the work site. “Signage must be installed at all locations where roads have been dug up so that commuters are aware of the ongoing work,” she said, adding that any kind of negligence in the road repair process will not be tolerated.
Executive Engineer of the Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Mr. Vikas Dhawan, informed that the pipeline laying work from the Post Office to Leela Bhawan is expected to be completed within the next five days. The second phase, extending from Gopal Sweets Chowk to Baradari, will be completed within the next 20 days. He added that after laying the pipelines, thorough testing is conducted to check for any leakages. Any issues are addressed immediately, followed by the commencement of road repair.
Municipal Corporation’s Supertendent Engineer, Mr. Harkiranpal Singh, stated that ₹20 crore in funds have been allocated for road construction in Patiala. Tenders for the same have already been issued and work orders have been released. He assured that road repair work will begin immediately after the pipeline testing is completed.
