Constructed worth Rs 2.61 crore Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial spread over 4-acre land: Deputy Commissioner
Sunam Udham Singh Wala (Sangrur), July 30: Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial constructed by the Punjab Government at Sunam Udham Singh Wala at a cost of Rs. 2.61 crore will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh tomorrow on July 31 on the occasion of martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh.
While reviewing the preparations for the inauguration ceremony of the memorial at Sunam Udham Singh Wala along with ACS Tourism and Cultural Affairs Mr. Sanjay Kumar, Director Ms. Kanwal Preet Brar and Daman Thind Bajwa, Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Mr. Ramvir said that the state government has planned a state level function to dedicate the memorial to the people of the state. He said that on this occasion, Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi, School Education and Public Works Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, Chairman Mandi Board Mr. Lal Singh apart from other dignitaries will also be arriving to pay their respects to the martyr.
The Deputy Commissioner said that apart from a copper statue of the martyr, the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial spread on 4 acres of land on Sunam-Mansa road will include museum, cafeteria and other facilities for the preservation and exhibition of his relics. He said that the layout and design of the monument has been prepared by the Chief Architect of Punjab and for the convenience of the people, parking, green landscaping, pathways, traditional lights and rain shelters has been constructed. He said that in addition to this red-sandstone has been used for the construction of the memorial and flower beds have been prepared in a circular design in front of the statue of the martyr.
Mr. Ramvir said that Shaheed Udham Singh avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre after 21 years and was hanged on 31 July 1940 in a London jail. He said that the history of the life of Shaheed Udham Singh has been engraved on the stones around the statue in Punjabi and English languages for the publicity of his heroic act. He said that this memorial would emerge as a source of inspiration for future generations and would inspire the youth to serve the country wholeheartedly.
On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, SDM Sunam Manjit Kaur, Congress Leader Harmandev Singh Bajwa, Tehsildar Kuldeep Singh, Civil Surgeon Sangrur Dr. Anjana Gupta and officials of concerned departments were present.
