Information and Public Relations, Horticulture, Defence Services and Freedom fighters welfare Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra today inaugurated a medical camp organised by Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University (JGND PSOU) in collaboration with Rotary Club, Patiala at, the Gurudwara Sahib Kalyan.
Jouramajra appreciated the efforts of the University in providing easy access to comprehensive speciality care to the residents of the village.
Prof. Karamjeet Singh, the Vice-Chancellor, JGND PSOU, said, âThe University is working on the motto of SEWA and service to society. This camp will greatly benefit the residents of the village.â He appreciated the dedication and commitment of the doctors who diagnosed the patients.
The medical team comprising specialists from ten areas examined the beneficiaries. The team included: Dr BS Sohal, ENT specialist and former head, of Govt. Medical College, Patiala; Dr AS Grover, former head, Surgery, Govt. Medical College, Patiala; Dr JPS Sodhi, eye specialist; Dr Kiratpal Kaur, Paediatrician; Dr Anu Prabha, Gynaecologist; Dr Vishal Chopra, Medicine, Chest, and TB specialist and Dr Satyanand, Audiologist. Mr H.S Talwar, Chief Engineer; Mr S.K Bhardwaj, Secretary, Rotary Club; Prof Gurdip Singh Batra, Dean of Academic Affairs, faculty members and non-teaching staff were present during the camp.
The panel of doctors examined several residents of Kalyanvillage. This camp sensitized residents on the importance of dental and personal hygiene, oral rehydration therapy, and risk factors for diseases. Medicines were dispensed free of cost at the campsite itself. More than 400 people benefited from the camp.
Prof. Manjit Singh, the Registrar, observed that institutes of Higher Education can contribute to bringing health services to the doorsteps of the needy to ensure the good health of citizens.
