Radio Punjab has made a remarkable name in short span, its efforts for community welfare commendable: CU Chancellor S. Satnam Singh Sandhu
Mohali, February 17, 2022: Making a distinctive mark for itself in the sea of Newspapers, electronic TV channels, and commercial radio channels, Chandigarh University’s community radio ‘Radio Punjab 90. O’ celebrated its first anniversary with much gaiety and fanfare at its broadcasting office here at the Gharuan campus of the varsity. Pro-Chancellor of Chandigarh University Dr. R S Bawa, Station Head of Radio Punjab 90. O Nidhi Sharma and other members of the radio team were present on the occasion.
In the short span of one year, the Community Radio of the University has made a remarkable name for its, with its pointed focus on programs related to agriculture, health, education, social welfare, community development, culture, besides regularly organized programs of immediate relevance to the community.
The radio channel has gained popularity among the masses, with its commendable efforts in bringing awareness in the society, by connecting the people, directly with relevant and important people, especially those in power.
Its morning show “Navi Sawaar” connects masses with important people in bureaucracy, civic affairs, civil society, and politicians, along with motivational speakers, while “Fit Gallan, Te Hit Songs” features various health experts who answer various queries of listeners on a wide range of health and lifestyle problems and phenomenon.
Adding to the list are the other programs such as ‘CU Di Gedi’, ‘CU Da Mike’, mental health-based programs like ‘Dil Diyan Galla’, ‘Pind Diyan Galla’ and ‘Yaadon Ki Classroom’, which are striving to promote community welfare in their own ways.
Apart from playing a vital role in creating awareness among people during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, Radio Punjab 90. O has accelerated to scale new heights through talk shows on women empowerment, health, road safety campaign, covid-vaccination awareness program, and science and innovation.
Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor of Chandigarh University, S. Satnam Singh Sandhu expressed his happiness that the Community Radio of the varsity is playing an important role in every field, spreading awareness in the spheres of the Corona epidemic, public welfare, road safety, education, women emancipation, culture and heritage, and health awareness.
“Keeping in view the local problems and interests of Punjab, many local and regional programs are being broadcast by the Radio Punjab 90.O. Radio has always been an important means of reaching out to the common people and Radio Punjab 90. O is making commendable efforts to work in the interest of the society by discussing the burning issues,” he said and congratulated the radio team.
Reminiscing the journey, Nidhi Sharma, Station Head, Radio Punjab 90. O said that the past year has been absolutely fulfilling, in the sense that we could work for the community in multiple ways, despite the hurdles the Covid-19 tried to create in our way.
“True to our tag line: ‘Tashan Punjabi Jashan Punjabi’, we have been celebrating life, while striving to make this world a better place for all of us. Our innovative programs have been able to make a special place in our listeners’ hearts, while we have been also influencing big changes in the community and its problems,” she said and thanked Chandigarh University for the independent and freewheeling platform it has provided to her team.
Nidhi informed that currently the Radio Punjab 90. O is running a special awareness campaign for the Punjab Assembly Elections being held on 20th February, where people of the state are encouraged to vote by various bureaucrats, government officials, and influencers, besides Sarpanch and other officials in its various programs.
“Besides, our station is working closely with government and administration on Covid-19 vaccination and Covid appropriate behavior, besides various campaigns with a number of NGOs to influence Sustainable Development and Community Welfare,” she added.
