Inmates to get 45 diagnostic tests, over 100 medicines free of cost

Chandigarh/Hoshiarpur, July 27:
Getting the newly established Aam Aadmi Clinic in local Central Jail dedicated by an inmate, Punjab Jails Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh on Monday said that the state government is fully committed to ensure quality healthcare services in every nook and corner across the state.
The Cabinet Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government had so far established 1,090 Aam Aadmi Clinics in Punjab to provide primary healthcare including quality medical services, essential diagnostic tests and medicines free of cost.
He said that this newly established Aam Aadmi Clinic was the 77th clinic in the district while the number of total clinics in Punjab had reached to 1090, where people could avail the facility of 45 types of diagnostic tests besides getting more than 100 medicines free of cost.
Dr. Ravjot Singh said the Punjab Government had already set up Aam Aadmi Clinics in eight jails across the state to ensure quality healthcare services for inmates. He said that each clinic had a Medical Officer, Pharmacist, Clinic Assistant and Helper to provide healthcare services. He said that over 1,400 inmates lodged in Hoshiarpur Central Jail would now be able to undergo routine medical tests and receive prescribed medicines from within the jail premises.
The Cabinet Minister said that nearly 5.90 crore patients had so far availed healthcare services at Aam Aadmi Clinics across Punjab while more than 3.50 crore tests had been carried out in these clinics. He added that the earlier 990 such clinics was serving around 83,000 patients daily, and with the number now increasing to 1,090, now more people would get the health services benefit.
The Jails Minister also informed that Aam Aadmi Clinics were also providing services related to antenatal care, screening and diet management for the pregnant women. He added that the now the government was contemplating to set up more 300 Aam Aadmi Clinics in the coming months to further expand access to quality primary healthcare across the state.
Jail Superintendent Harcharan Singh Gill and Civil Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Kamal also briefed the Minister about the establishment of the clinic, arrangements and the healthcare facilities available at the Central Jail. Additional Superintendent Harbans Singh, Deputy Superintendent Asha Rani, Urban Nodal Officer for Aam Aadmi Clinics Dr. Rohit Babuta and District Programme Manager (NHM) Mohammad Asif along with others were also present on the occasion.
