Patiala, August 22:
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav today said that the Patiala District Administration has launched an intensive awareness campaign to promote scientific stubble management during the ongoing Kharif season. The campaign is being carried out as per the “Action Plan” and activity calendar prepared for effective crop residue management.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Jaswinder Singh informed that, under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner, awareness activities are being organized across villages throughout August and September. These include wall paintings, street plays, mobile vans, the involvement of ASHA workers, and participation of school children to spread the message at the grassroots level. As part of this initiative, farmer awareness camps are being conducted with the active support of agriculture officers in various blocks of the district.
During these camps, farmers are being sensitized about the district administration’s guidelines, including the use of Super SMS machines for paddy harvesting, balers for bundling straw, incorporating stubble into the soil, and carrying out harvesting only between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm. Alongside stubble management, technical information is also being shared on mid-tillering practices in paddy, pest control measures, and disease prevention.
Awareness camps have so far been organized in villages Kalwa, Faridpur, Kauli, Jafarnagar, Boharpur, Jhanherian (Block Patiala) and Surajpur, Kularan, Sahouli, Roti Maudan, Sidhuval, Taurarwal, Mallewal, and Mangewal (Block Nabha).
The camps witnessed active participation of Agriculture Development Officers, Agriculture Extension Officers, Agriculture Sub-Inspectors, BTM and ATM staff, along with village sarpanches, numberdars, and progressive farmers including Jagjit Singh, Yadvinder Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Surinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Balihar Singh Mattu, Gurnam Singh Virk, and Harjinder Singh. Nearly 500 farmers attended these awareness programs.
