District Administration Committed to Reducing Maternal Mortality Rate
Patiala, June 15:
In a significant step towards enhancing maternal and child healthcare, the Patiala Health Department, under the supervision of the Civil Surgeon, organized a training session focused on the Integration of Pregnancy Care Services at Aam Aadmi Clinics. Senior Medical Officers from various blocks and Medical Officers from Aam Aadmi Clinics across the district participated in the session.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav, who attended as the chief guest, emphasized the need to prioritize healthcare services for pregnant women and children at Aam Aadmi Clinics. She noted that the government’s primary objective is to reduce maternal mortality and improve the overall health outcomes for mothers and infants. To achieve this, clinics must deliver high-quality antenatal care services that ensure safe pregnancies and healthy births.
Dr. Preeti Yadav highlighted that these services should be provided on a priority basis to pregnant women and newborns to minimize complications and health risks.
District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Balkar Singh informed that regular checkups for pregnant women at Aam Aadmi Clinics will commence on June 23. He outlined key causes of maternal deaths, including delayed or complicated deliveries, failure to reach higher medical facilities in time, lack of disclosure of pre-existing conditions, post-delivery bleeding, infections, high blood pressure, and unsafe abortions.
He urged medical staff to ensure at least four antenatal checkups for every pregnant woman and to pay close attention to high-risk pregnancies. Dr. Singh clarified that the maternal mortality rate refers to the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. Targeted efforts are underway to further reduce this rate in the district.
He also mentioned that Aam Aadmi Clinics will now offer postnatal care and family planning services, ensuring continued support for mothers after childbirth.
The training session featured detailed presentations by Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Gynecologist, and Ritika Grover, District Program Manager. Key attendees included District Mass Media Officer Kulveer Kaur, Urban Coordinator Harsh Bansal, and BCC Coordinator Jasvir Kaur.
