Chandigarh, March 7, 2025: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, on Friday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sukhraj Singh, posted at Police Station Civil Lines, Batala, in Gurdaspur district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said the accused ASI was arrested based on a complaint lodged by the owner of a foundry in Gurdaspur on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line.
He further added that the complainant had alleged that an FIR had been registered against him at Batala Police Station, where ASI Sukhraj Singh was the investigating officer (IO) in his case, and he had demanded Rs 15,000 to favor him during the investigation.
The spokesperson further informed that following the verification of the complaint and supporting evidence, the allegations were found to be true. In this regard, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB Police Station, Range Amritsar. The accused would be produced before the competent court tomorrow, and further investigation into this case is underway, he said.
