Accused travel agent demanded bribe to rectify names and renew passports

Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) arrested an aide of Ludhiana based Travel Agent while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from Sukhdeep Kaur Gill resident of New Sodhi Nagar, Moga.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the VB said that Sukhdeep Kaur Gill approached the Economic Offences Wing (EoW) of Punjab VB, Ludhiana and lodged a complaint that the accused Travel Agent Kamal Goel, whose office Travel Club is situated near Passport Sewa Kendra Ludhiana, demanded Rs 20,000 to rectify the names and renew the passports of her daughters.
After preliminary investigation of the complaint, the spokesperson said that a team of VB laid a trap and arrested Sonu Shah, who is an aide of the travel agent Kamal Geol, while accepting the bribe money Rs 20,000 from the complainant, while, the accused travel agent managed to flee from the spot.
In this regard, an FIR no. 13 dated 28-08-2023 under section 7-A of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the travel agent Kamal Goel and his aide Sonu Shah at Police Station Economic Offences Wing (EoW) of Punjab VB, Ludhiana. Further investigation is on in the case, he added.
