Chandigarh, August 2
The UT on Sunday reported one more death and as many as 38 fresh cases of coronavirus during the past 24 hours. With this, the death toll in Chandigarh due to the infection has risen to 19. The tally of infected people has climbed to 1117 including 399 active cases.
According to a medical bulletin issued by the UT Administration, a 63-year-old male, r/o Bapu Dham, expired on Saturday night at PGIMER, Chandigarh. He was a case of SARI along with coronary artery disease with Inferior wall myocardial Infarction. He was admitted in SARI ward on 31-7-20 where he was sampled for COVID. He tested positive on 01.08.2020. He has nine family members and four family contacts. All 13 have been sampled and reports are awaited.
The new infection cases have been reported from different localities in the city besides the villages surrounding it.

Meanwhile, 15 patients have been cured and discharged from the hospitals in the city.

A 62-year-old male, resident of sector 55 who tested COVID 19 positive on 28th July has committed suicide in GMCH- 32 in the morning hours today.
He jumped from the 5th floor of area 55(COVID isolation area) at about 7.25 am.He was shifted to surgery O.T and efforts made to resuscitate him. He was declared dead at 8.05 am.
He was earlier shifted to Sood Dharamsala, COVID care Centre on 28th July after getting diagnosed as COVID 19 Positive. However, on 29th he developed breathlessness and was shifted back to GMCH 32. He was administered oxygen there. He was a reformed smoker and was having co-morbid condition of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). His two family contacts have also been reported as positive.
