Chandigarh, September 20, 2020: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today urged President Ram Nath Kovind not to sign the agriculture Bill into law after they were passed by the Rajya Sabha.
Sukhbir also requested the President to return the Bills to Parliament for reconsideration.
“Please stand by the farmers, “kisan mazdoors”, “arhtiyas”, “mandi” labour and Dalits,” the SAD president said.
“Please intervene on their behalf with the government otherwise they will never forgive us,” Sukhbir said to the President, adding, “Don’t let the “annadata” starve or sleep on the roads.”
The SAD president said the passage of Bills marks a sad day for the country’s millions and for democracy.
“Democracy means consensus, not majority oppression,” he said.
