MEETING TO BE HELD WITH SUGAR MILL OWNERS AND CONCERNED DEPARTMENTS FOR RESOLVING OTHER DEMANDS

The Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Saturday held a meeting with the farm organizations belonging to the Majha and Doaba regions in order to address their issues with regard to the Sugarcane crops.
The Chief Minister on the occasion assured the farm organizations of initiating process to ensure that the Cooperative as well as the Private sugar mills across the State commence operations from November 15, 2021 for the 2021-22 season.
Earlier, the farmers while apprising the Chief Minister about their demands said that Sugarcane is the main crop of their regions and their economic well being depends on it. However, this time the private sugar mills of the State have neither bounded the Sugarcane nor have they fulfilled the calendar system and are also non-committal on giving the date for starting the mills on time.
The farmers also appealed to the Chief Minister to ensure cash payment concerning the 2021-22 season and fast track the same regarding the previous seasons.
The Chief Minister directed the concerned officials to soon convene a meeting of the sugar mill owners and the stakeholder departments for resolving the problem. “I assure you that the Punjab Government stands committed to the welfare of the farmers and all the issues would be redressed on priority”, said Channi to the farmers.
The farm leaders also honoured the Chief Minister with a ‘Siropa’.
President Majha Kisaan Sangharsh Committee Balwinder Singh Raju Aulakh, President Doaba Kisaan Union Punjab Kuldip Singh Vajidpur, President Doaba Kisaan Committee Punjab Jangveer Singh Chauhan, President Doaba Kisaan Sangharsh Committee Mukesh Chander Sharma, President Ganna Sangharsh Committee Dasuya Sukhpal Singh Daffar and President Bhartiya Kisaan Union Doaba Satnam Singh Sahni were also present on the occasion.
