Patiala, July 14:
In a significant step toward rehabilitating individuals overcoming substance abuse, the Punjab Government has launched a skill development initiative aimed at equipping them with livelihood skills during treatment. As part of this program, a Fast Food Training Course was successfully conducted at the Saket De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre in collaboration with RSETI Patiala (Rural Self Employment Training Institute, run by State Bank of India) and the District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises (DBEE).
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Preeti Yadav distributed certificates to the 25 participants who completed the course and congratulated them on their achievement. She emphasized that such initiatives are key to helping recovering individuals become self-reliant and rejoin the mainstream society with dignity.
Dr. Preeti Yadav further said that, beyond training, the Punjab Government is facilitating financial support through loan schemes and providing expert mentorship to encourage self-employment among participants. She announced that in the coming months, more vocational courses such as dairy farming, plumbing, AC repair, and electrician training will be introduced to support long-term rehabilitation and livelihood generation.
Dr. Parminder Kaur, Project Coordinator at Saket, shared that the participants were provided both theoretical and practical training in fast food preparation, empowering them with essential entrepreneurial skills.
Also present at the event were RSETI Director Bhagwan Singh Verma, who highlighted the range of ongoing training programs at the institute, RSETI Coordinator Hardeep Rai, DBEE Deputy CEO Satinder Singh, Career Counselor Dr. Roopsi Pahuja, Sumit Joshi, and Ajitinder Singh.
