Ferozepur, December 27, 2020: Punjab government honouring its commitment for the welfare of the Journalists fraternity, a cheque of compensation of Rs.10 lakh was handed over by Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Cabinet Minister – Sports and Youth Affairs, to the wife of the deceased journalist Amarjit Singh Behal, who succumbed to Covid-19 infection. Amarjit Singh Behl, was working as a journalist for Ajit group of newspapers.
Describing Amarjit Singh Behl as an upright and dedicated journalist, the Cabinet Minister said that the journalist was a fine human being too, who was committed to professional ethics and worked in the field of a journalist for 38 years. Such loss is irreparable not only to the family but to the whole journalist fraternity but he would be a source of inspiration for others. The Minister also assured fulsome support from the State Government in the future too.
Remembering Amarjit Singh Behl Journalist by observing 2-minute silence, the financial assistance cheque on behalf of Punjab government was handed over by Rana Sodhi at the local Ajit office to Parminder Kaur wife of Journalist. His brother Swarnjit Singh Behal was also present on this occasion.
Notably, the Chief Minister Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh had announced to extend relief of Rs.10 lakh to the accredited o yellow card holder journalists in case of death due to Covid-19.
