CHANDIGARH, August 26:
With the heavy rainfall in the catchment areas continues to swell the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi and Ujh rivers, the Punjab Police along with the teams of Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have scaled up the rescue and evacuation operations in flood-affected districts in the state.
The districts, which are affected by floods, includes Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Fazilka and Ferozepur.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla, who has been personally supervising the situation in the state, said that SSPs of flood-affected districts have been asked to remain in the field and personally monitor the situation in their respective districts regularly.
He informed that all the arrangements are in place and SSPs personally monitoring the relief work and people are being shifted to safer places. Recently, some people, who were stuck in floods, were rescued through Helicopter in Pathankot.
The Special DGP said that the entire Punjab Police force has been kept on alert to deal with any kind of flood-related exigencies.
Meanwhile, Police teams have continued its cordon and search operation (CASO) against drugs on Day 178, and conducted raids at 381 locations on Tuesday leading to the arrest of 78 drug smugglers after registration of 53 first information reports (FIRs) across the state.
The Special DGP said that the raids have resulted in recovery of 630 grams heroin, 71 kg poppy husk, 659 intoxicant tablets/capsules and Rs 1120 drug money from the possession of arrested drug smugglers.
He informed that over 120 Police teams, comprising over 1200 police personnel, under the supervision of 78 gazetted officers have conducted raids across the state and checked as many as 420 suspicious persons during the day long operation.
The Special DGP said that with the state government has enforced a three-pronged strategy— Enforcement, Deaddiction and Prevention (EDP)— to eradicate drugs from the state, the Punjab Police as part of ‘De-addiction’ has convinced 44 persons to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment today.
