Dr. Balbir Singh Assures 24×7 Health Services in Flood-Affected Areas
Ghanour/Patiala, September 3:
Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh today urged the Central Government to take decisive steps for a permanent solution to recurring floods, which continue to cause heavy losses to the people of Punjab due to rainfall in hilly regions and the release of water from dams.
Reviewing the situation at Sarala Head on the Ghaggar river and later inspecting the Community Health Centre, Ghanour, Dr. Balbir Singh said the flood challenge is not confined to Punjab but also affects Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir and other states. “The Centre must convene all affected states and work out a comprehensive, long-term strategy to address this recurring crisis,” he emphasized.
Interacting with residents, the Minister assured that the Punjab Government stands firmly with the people and is extending all possible support. He informed that round-the-clock health services are being provided at CHC Ghanour and nearby hospitals. Additional doctors have been deputed for emergency duty, and essential arrangements including chlorine tablets for drinking water, mobile health units, rapid response teams, and medicines have been made available. He also motivated healthcare staff to continue serving with full dedication during this difficult time.
Dr. Balbir Singh further cautioned people not to panic but to remain alert, assuring that the administration is working continuously and issuing timely advisories. “The state government is fully committed to protecting the lives and health of its people,” he said.
Punjab Health Systems Corporation Vice Chairman Maninderjit Vikki Ghanour, Rajpura SDM Avikesh Gupta, Drainage Department SE Rajinder Ghai, and senior health officials were also present.
