Chandigarh, January 12: Punjab Government has constituted a ‘Punjab High Powered Investment Committee’ (HPIC) to encourage NRIs for investing in the state. The decision to form the committee was taken during a meeting presided over by NRI Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi.
Disclosing this here today, Rana Sodhi said that it was decided after the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has suggested to constitute a committee to persuade NRIs for investing in the industrial and other sectors in the state and to facilitate investment process for them.
NRI Affairs Minister Rana Sodhi said that prominent NRIs residing in different countries were demanding that the state government should set up a state level forum or committee for investment in the state, which could act as a link between the both government and NRIs. He said that this committee would work as a joint committee between the NRI Affairs Department and the Invest Punjab.
Mr. Rana Sodhi said that the Additional Chief Secretary, NRI Affairs Mr. Kirpa Shankar Saroj would be the Chairman of the Committee, while CEO Invest Punjab Mr. Rajat Agarwal will be the Vice Chairman and Special Secretary, NRI Affairs Mr. D.P.S. Kharbanda would be the Member Secretary of the HPIC. The members of the committee included; Additional CEO Invest Punjab, Joint Director (IT) Invest Punjab Mr. Deepinder Singh Dhillon, Honorary Coordinator (UK) Mr. Manjit Singh Nijhar, Honorary Coordinator (Australia) Mr. Karan Randhawa, Honorary Coordinator (USA) Mrs. Meena Dhesi Sangera and Mr. Harneek Singh (UAE). Similarly, the coordinators of other countries would be the ex-officio members of HPIC.
The Minister said that these honorary coordinators would motivate more and more NRIs/companies from their respective countries to invest in the state of Punjab and to coordinate with the Invest Punjab team and various departments to continuously work for encouraging investment.
