PUNJAB CM UNDERLINES NEED TO MAKE CIVIL & POLICE ADMINISTRATION RESPONSIVE AND ACCOUNTABLE TO REDRESS PEOPLE’S GRIEVANCES ON TOP PRIORITY

·        HANDS OVER DEBT RELIEF CERTIFICATES TO 25 FARM LABOURERS & LANDLESS FARMERS OF SRI CHAMKAUR SAHIB AS A SYMBOLIC LAUNCH OF LOAN WAIVER WORTH RS.12.73 CR TO 7445 BENEFICIARIES

·        LAUNCHES PILOT PROJECT OF DRONE TECHNOLOGY FOR MAPPING OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES IN VILLAGES OF SRI CHAMKAUR SAHIB ASSEMBLY SEGMENT

Morinda, October 3: Reiterating his government’s firm commitment to ensure clean and transparent administration to the people across the state, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Sunday said that all the Civil and Police officers would be made responsive and accountable for prompt redressal of their grievances on the top priority.

While addressing the public gathering here at Morinda during a state level function to hand over the debt relief certificates to the farm labourers and landless farmers besides launching pilot project of drone technology for digital mapping of rural properties within Sri Chamkaur Sahib assembly segment under Mission Lal Lakir, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for early resolution of genuine concerns of the people especially the poor and downtrodden in order to repose their trust in the functioning of the government.

Mr. Channi, however, said any person found to be indulging in wrong doing would not be spared at the same time the innocent and honest would not be harassed by the police at any cost. He said that the detailed instructions to all the civil and police officers had already been issued by the state administration to ensure their accessibility to the people besides giving due respect to the people’s representatives like MLAs, Sarpanches, Panches etc.

Striking an emotional chord, Channi thanked the people of Sri Chamkaur Sahib assembly constituency for reposing confidence in his leadership as a humble servant of this sacred land blessed by Dasmesh Pita Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji and his elder Sahibzadas Baba Ajit Singh ji and Baba Jujhar Singh ji and assured to serve them for the development of region and their welfare with utmost devotion, sincerity and commitment throughout his life. The Chief Minister said he would leave no stone unturned to ensure holistic development of the area in the next 3-4 months to cherish their aspirations.

The Chief Minister also announced a slew of development projects for the region including an over bridge at a cost of Rs.114 crore over river Sutlej connecting Bela-Paniali road to National Highway 344-A, two sports stadiums in ITIs of Raipur and Tripari besides upgradation of Civil Hospital at Sri Chamkaur Sahib. He also announced that Railway under Bridge at Morinda would be soon made operational adding he said the upcoming skill university at Sri Chamkaur Sahib would act as a catalyst to boost employment opportunities in the region by upskilling the local youth.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister accompanied by Revenue Minister Aruna Chaudhary also launched the pilot project of drone technology for mapping of the residential properties in the villages of Morinda assembly segment so as to confer the ownership rights upon the eligible beneficiaries and also handed over the proprietary certificates to Gurmit Singh and Narinder Singh residents of village Wazidpur.

Later, he also handed over debt relief certificates to 25 farm labourers and landless farmers as a symbolic launch of the debt waiver scheme under which the loans advanced by the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies to the tune of Rs. 12.73 crore of 7445 such beneficiaries from Ropar and Mohali districts would be waived.

Notably, the Punjab government has already decided to waive off loans amounting to Rs 520 crores of 2.85 lakh farm labourers and landless farmers with respect to the principal amount against their cooperative loans as on July 31, 2017, and simple interest @ 7.00% p.a. on the above amount till 6th March, 2019. It is noteworthy that the state government had earlier waived off Rs 4700 crore worth of loans (up to Rs 2 lakh of crop loan each) for 5.85 lakh Small and Marginal famers.

Earlier speaking on the occasion, Revenue Minister Aruna Chaudhary said that several pro-poor initiatives have been taken recently by the Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, which would go a long way in restoring the confidence of the people in state administration. She assured the Chief Minister that the Mission Lal Lakir would be accomplished positively by the end of October as the drone project was already launched in district Gurdaspur on pilot basis and the same would be replicated in all other districts to identify the rural properties through digital mapping.

Meanwhile, Registrar Cooperative Societies Vikas Garg in his welcome address briefed the Chief Minister about the debt waiver scheme for farm labourers and landless farmers.

Prominent amongst other who were present on the occasion included Ex-MLA Bhag Singh, local leaders and party workers besides senior civil and police officers of Rupnagar.
