Mohali, October 3: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Sunday exhorted the teachers to become role models in transforming the destiny of students so as to make them the ideal citizens of the society.
In his address on the event of National Awards for Outstanding Teachers organised by Federation of Private Schools and Associations of Punjab at Chandigarh University Gharuan, Channi said that the teaching is a noble profession and the entire nation is indebted to the teaching community for their sterling services towards nation building. The Educational institutions are like religious places said Channi while nostalgically remembering his school days in his native village Bhajauli. “My school teachers have played immense role in making me whatever I am today”, added Mr. Channi.
Terming the role of teachers as equivalent to that of the mothers’, the Chief Minister urged the teachers to help students learn by imparting knowledge to them. He also accentuated role of teachers as most important in instilling moral values. On this occasion, the Chief Minister assured teachers a congenial atmosphere to perform their duties. He underlined the need to streamline the entire system which will prove equitably benefitted for teachers and students.
Mr. Channi urged the students to scrupulously utilise every second of their time in furthering their studies. Encouraging the students to have a goal and work hard towards achieving that, he emphasised upon the need to hone up ones time management skills so that one can pursue his/her life goals passionately. He motivated students to be compassionate towards others and help each other to grow together as a team. Motivating students to take part in Bhangra, NSS, Sports and other cultural and allied activities, the Chief Minister said these extra co-curricular activities hold equal salience with studies and must be pursued in equal measure. The Chief Minister also launched logo of the association.
During the function, the Chief Minister bestowed awards to the best teachers which included Rajendra Sharma S.M.D.R SD School Pathankot, Mehak Doon International School, Arshpal Kaur Doaba Model High School, Preeti Mount Carmel School, Paramjeet Kaur Disha Public Sr. Sec. School, Lakhwinder International Fateh Academy, Daljeet Kaur Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Rajendra Pal Kaur Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Poonam Sharma Mount Litera Zee School, Rajveer Kaur Sikh Heritage Model High School. He also conferred Jaswant Kaur Devgan with Pride of Punjab Award for her commendable social work in Punjab.
Earlier, Chancellor, Chandigarh University Satnam Singh Sandhu and President FAP Dr. Jagjit Singh Dhuri also shared their vision and acknowledged the role of teachers in everyone’s life.
Prominent amongst others who attended the function included Actor and Comedian Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar Ms. Isha Kalia and SSP SAS Nagar Satinder Singh.
