Chandigarh, November 17: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday condoled the sad demise of the senior Congress leader and former State Agriculture Minister Mohinder Singh Gill (85), who passed away today after a brief illness.
In a condolence message, the Chief Minister described Mohinder Singh Gill as a multifaceted personality, a gentleman politician and a fine human being with the qualities of head and heart, who relentlessly worked at grassroots level to strengthen the partyโs rank and file as President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. With the death of Gill, a void has been created in the political circle which is difficult to be filled, added Captain Amarinder Singh.
Sharing his heartfelt sympathies with members of the bereaved family, relatives and friends, Captain Amarinder Singh prayed to the Almighty to give strength to them to bear this irreparable loss in this hour of grief and grant peace to the departed soul.
Notably, Gill remained Member Lok Sabha from 1971-77 and President PPCC from 1976-1979. He was also elected MLA from Ferozepur Cantt. in 1967 and from Banur in 1992.
As a mark of respect to the departed leader, the Punjab government also declared holiday in its offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions for the remaining part of the day.
