PUNJAB STRESSES PRODUCTIVITY, QUALITY AND COST CONTROL IN TOOL MANUFACTURING SECTOR
CABINET MINISTER HARDEEP SINGH MUNDIAN CALLS FOR TECHNOLOGY DRIVEN INDUSTRIAL GROWTH AT INVESTORS SUMMIT

Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management, Water Supply and Sanitation, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Hardeep Singh Mundian, today highlighted the need to enhance productivity, quality standards and cost efficiency in tool manufacturing while participating in the session on “Hand and Machine Tools, Power Tools” under the theme “Strengthening The Factory Floor, Productivity, Quality and Cost Control in Tool Manufacturing” during the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit held at Plaksha University.
Expressing gratitude to officers, experts and panel members, the Cabinet Minister acknowledged the visionary leadership of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for providing a fresh direction to industrial development and appreciated the Industry Department for organising the summit as a platform for meaningful dialogue.
He said that the hand tools, machine tools and power tools sector remains a strong pillar of India’s manufacturing economy, supporting automotive, construction and infrastructure industries. He stated that Punjab contributes nearly 80 percent of India’s hand tools exports through the industrial clusters of Jalandhar and Ludhiana, where around 1200 industrial units are operating, thereby strengthening the state’s industrial ecosystem.
The Cabinet Minister added that Punjab’s expertise in forging, machining, heat treatment and precision engineering, along with the steel cluster of Mandi Gobindgarh, skilled workforce and strong MSME network, has provided a solid foundation to the sector. Stressing the need to remain globally competitive, the Cabinet Minister called for adoption of advanced technologies such as automation, CNC machining, digital monitoring and Industry 4.0 solutions.
He expressed confidence that supportive policies of the Punjab Government would enable industry to upgrade technologically, expand in global markets and create large scale employment opportunities for youth. He urged all stakeholders to work collectively to position Punjab as a leading global hub in tool manufacturing.
Director, Technical Education and Industrial Training, Mr. Moneesh Kumar, asserted the importance of industry academia collaboration, skill based training, internships and introduction of modern machinery, including robotics and CNC systems, in technical institutions to enhance employability.
Industry representatives, including Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Mr. Binny Gupta and Mr. Major Singh, shared views on innovation, cost optimisation, renewable energy adoption, quality assurance and reduction of production wastage to improve manufacturing efficiency.
