Chandigarh, December 25: The message cum speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the farmers today is nothing more than a dreamers paradise amid the month long stir of farmers who have been knocking at the very gates of Delhi, agitating against the three draconian farm laws. These views were expressed here today in a press communique by the Cabinet Minister and Senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa.
Reacting very strongly to the PM’s speech, Randhawa said that it was a nothing but a pack of blatant lies and what is more distressing is that the PM is not listening to the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ of the scores of farmers. Rejecting the speech in its entirety, the Congress leader said that it would have been much better and appreciated had the PM made an announcement to roll back the farm laws keeping in view the anguish amongst the farming community. Be it the farmers or the reputed members of the legal fraternity, all have branded the farm laws as anti-farmer but the Prime Minister is still sticking to his guns and indulging in hard selling these laws as agricultural reforms, added Randhawa.
The Cabinet Minister further pointed out that the Prime Minister during the course of his speech couldn’t spell out with facts even a single measure promulgated by the Union Government since the past six years which can be described as serving the interests of the farmers and agricultural sector. He also said that the Prime Minister is even now calling the farmers agitation as being led by the misguided leaders and politically motivated, which is utterly unjustified. He asked the Prime Minister, what he would say about the participation of farmers from BJP-ruled states Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in the farmers’ agitation. “Besides this, the Prime Minister should have broken his silence on the failed agricultural model in a state like Bihar”, the Minister categorically said.
Randhawa further added that the Prime Minister was today boasting of providing free electricity to the farmers as Achievement of his government, when the reality is that the Punjab government has been providing this facility on its own since many years. On the other hand, the Modi-led union government is up the ante to bring in Electricity Bill. He said that the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh’s government has fulfilled its promise of farmers’ debt waiver and so far a debt to the tune of Rs.4610 crore of 5.63 lakh farmers has been waived off.
