Ferozepur, October 26, 2020: Press Club, Ferozepur organized a two-hour FACTSHALA Webinar in two sessions for its members about media and information literacy to help the viewers distinguish the truth and reliability of the news and information, to form their independent opinions.
Factshala is a news and information literacy programme launched by Internews in collaboration with DataLEADS with support from Google.org and Google News Initiative. It is working in the fight against misinformation, empowering citizens in India through news and information literacy. The programmeis aimed to help people to access and critically evaluate information online.
The key-note trainer was Dr.Vijayata Taneja from India Media Literacy Network – who gave the power-point presentation from 11 am to 1 pm besides having interaction with the participants about their queries.
She said, when social media is active than any other source of information where everyone is Editor in his own style, there is need to present the contents as a journalist or in the senior position with more facts, clarity, credibility, and authenticity.
All the participants were put wiser by the trainer with a number of tools and sites available to check the contents, pics, events before finalizing the write-up for publication.
The participants –Sunny Chopra, Rajesh Kataria, Rattan Lal, Viney Handa, Rajan Arora, Akshay Galhotra, Gaurav Manik, Gill Gulamiwala, Harish Monga, and others – said, the Webinar was quite useful especially when the readers and viewers are very smart to pin-point the misinformation and such seminars clear the doubts of the reporters to present well-baked news instead of half-baked.
