CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR, April 30:
Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a narcotics smuggling network with the arrest of one drug smuggler and recovered 6 Kg Heroin from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Vairoval Road, Jandiala Guru in Amritsar. Apart from recovering heroin consignment, police teams have also impounded his silver-coloured Hyundai i10 car bearing registration number PB10-CV-3211, which was being used for drug trafficking.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused was acting at the behest of a Dubai-based handler Antarpreet Singh of Sultanwind, who is involved in narcotics trafficking and has multiple cases registered against him. Probe has revealed that following directions of Antarpreet Singh, arrested accused Lovepreet used to procure large consignments of heroin from various locations and supply them to subsequent parties, he said.
Sharing operational details, he said that police teams had received reliable inputs that accused Lovepreet recently procured a large consignment of heroin and is expected to deliver this consignment to another party near Adda Manawala on the Amritsar-Jalandhar GT Road. Acting on swiftly, police team reached in the area and apprehended suspect Lovepreet, when he was travelling in his i10 car, he said, while adding that, during the search 6 kg heroin was recovered from the car.
The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to unearth the entire network.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 27 dated 29-04-2026 under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
