In the wake of recent tensions between India and Pakistan, life has steadily returned to normal in the border villages of Fazilka following the ceasefire agreement. Residents, are now back to their regular routines with renewed confidence and peace of mind.
The courage and patriotism displayed by the people of Fazilka’s border villages during this tense period were exemplary. Alongside their resilience, the residents have expressed deep gratitude towards the brave soldiers of the Indian Army, who successfully thwarted a drone attack from across the border, ensuring no harm, came to civilians.
Speaking in unison, villagers extended heartfelt thanks to the Army for their vigilance and protection. Continuous communication and support from the district administration further helped maintain calm. Unlike previous instances, there was no need for evacuation orders this time, a testament to the preparedness and capability of our armed forces.
Babbu Singh, a youth from village Jodha Bheni, situated right along the zero line, remarked, “We had complete faith in our Army. We stood firm in our village. With our forces at the border, there was no fear. The administration also kept us well-informed with timely guidance.”
It is noteworthy that during the heightened tension, an enemy drone attempted to breach the Indian border near Fazilka, but it was intercepted by the Army, preventing any damage.
The unwavering bond between Fazilka residents and the Indian forces is long-standing. Recalling the 1971 war, locals proudly highlight how the brave soldiers sacrificed their lives to protect Fazilka. In their honor, a war memorial was established in Asafwala, which continues to be a site of reverence and respect.
Sanjay Kumar from Khanwala village, just 1 kilometer from the Pakistan border, shared, ” When the Army is present, it boosts our confidence. Like every Indian, we take pride in our armed forces. Their presence allows us to sleep peacefully at night.”
The same patriotic spirit was seen in residents of village Pakka Chishti, who gathered in solidarity and said, “As long as the Indian Army stands guard, we are safe.”
Deputy Commissioner of Fazilka, Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, praised the people of the district for their wholehearted cooperation with both the administration and the armed forces. “Where people are so united with the forces and administration, no enemy can ever dare to cross the border,” she stated.
