• STRESSES UPON INCLUSIVE DISCUSSION IN PARLIAMENT
Chandigarh, November 30:
Echoing the demand of farmers for Minimum Support Price (MSP) on every crop, Punjab Revenue Minister Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary on Tuesday demanded that MSP should be the legal right besides threadbare debate on this issue in both the houses of Parliament.
Reiterating the commitment of the state government to accord every benefit to the farmers, Mrs. Chaudhary said that the BJP led NDA Government is fearing debate on the issue as the Union Government has been reluctant to accord any right to the peasantry. She exhorted that MSP should be the legal right for farmers on every crop as this is the need of the hour.
Terming the revocation of the three draconian farm-laws in Parliament as a victory of the protesting farmers and labourers, the Cabinet Minister insisted, cases against the farmers should be withdrawn immediately and compensation should be given to kin of those who died during the agitation, stressing upon that the MSP should be statuary backing as the farming community needs some sustainability in these times of price rise.
Pertinently mentioned that the Union Government has announced MSPs on 23 crops but the prices received by farmers, especially during harvest time, are well below the officially-declared MSPs. And since MSPs have no statutory backing, they cannot demand these as a matter of right.
