Chandigarh, 23 September 2020: A Video Conference was done by Union Home Secretary today with all Union Territories to review the progress of “One Nation, One Ration Card”. Union Home Secretary, Sh. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, IAS appreciated the fact that the Chandigarh was the first to introduce this scheme in 2015 and first to prepare all infrastructure arrangements for “One Nation, One Ration Card”. The software for the scheme has been prepared by NIC.
Under the Scheme, when a migrant labour from other state arrives in Chandigarh and decides to take ration from here, in such cases, his Aadhar Card and biometric will be verified from his home state and his name will be entered in the list of DBT beneficiaries in Chandigarh. The migrant labour will be able to get his ration subsidy without any hitch. His name will be deleted from the DBT list of his native place. Chandigarh already has 2.57 lacs BPL families under DBT Scheme.
Adviser, Manoj Parida briefed the Union Home Secretary about steps taken by Administration in providing food and facilitating travel of migrant labour during the lockdown period. He also appreciated the efforts made by Food & Civil Supplies Department of Chandigarh Administration for distributing ration under PMGKAY Scheme, even though UT does not have any network of PDS shops or godowns. The department has already distributed 60% of the food grains under PMGKAY Scheme till date against the targeted date of November, 2020.
