Milkfed even during this pandemic period is extending a helping hand to the milk producers as well as introducing new products in the markets for the benefit of consumers. The Mega Dairy Project at Bassi Pathana with total outlay of Rs. 138 crores, is in final stages and slated for commencing operations in August 2021. The project would prove to be a blessing for especially the small farmers connected with the allied occupation of milk production apart from the people of the State.
This was disclosed here today in a press communiqué by the Cooperation Minister S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa at the Milkfed headoffice in the aftermath of a meeting to review the functioning of the institution.
Divulging more, the Cooperation Minister said that despite the tough times of Covid-19 pandemic, the Milkfed is efficiently running modernization and capacity expansion projects worth Rs. 254 crores at Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali and Patiala Dairies. “The strengthening of cooperative sector institutions leads to quality products for the people besides giving a boost to the farming community”, said the Minister.
On the occasion, S. Randhawa launched Verka Dairy Whitener in different packing sizes of 05gm, 10gm & 20gm sachets to cater to all types of consumers. He also said that Verka Dairy Whitener is produced from pure, wholesome milk of Punjab with state of art machinery established at Verka Jalandhar Dairy. The long storage and ease of usage of Verka Dairy whitener makes it the best choice for home, office use and for travel purpose for preparation of tea, coffee & wholesome beverages. One Kg Verka Dairy Whitener can produce 10 Kg liquid milk. It contains low percentage of sugar (18%), high percentage of fat (20%) and protein (22%). The price of 5gm Dairy Whitener sachet has been fairly pegged at Rs.2 for 5 Gm, Rs. 4 for 10 Gm & Rs. 8 for 20 Gm sachet. It makes beverages more wholesome, thick and adds rich Milky Taste & aroma to beverages, added the Minister.
The MD Milkfed Mr. Kamaldeep Singh Sangha informed that keeping in view of the successful launch of Dairy Whitener in 200gm, ½ kg, 1kg, 7.5 kg & 10kg packing & regular demand of consumer for introducing Verka dairy whitener in sachet packing, Milkfed has introduced these packings of 5gm, 10gm & 20gm in sachet segments. He also said that for boosting the immunity of people, Verka has launched the popular Haldi Dudh and many flavors like Elaichi, Butter Scotch, Strawberry, Badam, Honey Ginger etc. of PIO Sweetened Flavored Milk, have been introduced for the convenience of consumers, in new convenient PP bottles. Also keeping in view the trend of consumer for moving towards healthy, immunity providing products, Verka recently launched Real Fruit Ice-cream in flavors – strawberry, Pink Guava, Litchi & Mango. All the Verka products are available at all major retail outlets and Verka booths. At the time of COVID-19 pandemic, when the whole country was reeling under economic slowdown in the Industry and Service sector, Milkfed Punjab, in the overall interest of milk producers’ has procured 17% more milk during 2020-21 than the milk quantity it had procured in the financial year 2019-20. The move has enabled the milk producers to keep the milk rates constant level, said the MD.
The Administrator Milkfed and Registrar, Cooperative Societies Mr. Vikas Garg informed that the quality of milk products is being augmented by modernizing all Verka Milk Plants of Milkfed. He also assured the consumers that the State Government is fully committed to roll out more products for the consumers and the institution would steps to increase its technical & production capability.
