Tightening noose around the illicit liquor and drugs smugglers, the district Police led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mansa Surendra Lamba, IPS under its special drive has registered 228 first information reports (FIRs) and arrested 225 persons after recovering the heavy amount of drugs, lahan and illicit liquor.
Divulging details, SSP Surendra Lamba said that the district-wide raids as part of the crackdown on illicit/spurious liquor and drugs businesses are being conducted in order to make the district free of drugs and illicit liquor trade.
He said that after arresting 225 persons from various places in the Month of August, the Mansa Police have seized 139924 narcotic pills, 30 narcotic vials, 5½ gm Heroin, 22½ gm Smack, 2 kg 300 gm Opium, 30 Bottles of Syrup, 40 Kg Poppy Husk, 7 working stills (apparatus used for the distillation of liquids), 8315 litres lahan, 538.410 ltrs illicit liquor, 2091.750 ltrs licit liquor and 18 litres Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL).
SSP said that cases have been registered against the arrested persons in various police stations under NDPS Act and Excise Act and investigations are on. He said that the campaign against the illicit liquor and drug smugglers will be continued under the Punjab Government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs and illicit liquor.
