Ludhiana,14 June 2022-Ludhiana Commissionerate Police under the guidance of Hon’ble Commissioner of Police Dr. Kaustubh Sharma IPS has busted the racket in which perpetrators used to extort money from various individuals in Ludhiana by putting them in fear of death.
Following the threatening calls and videos of weapons received by various people across Punjab on Whatsapp, a special team was constituted under the supervision of ADCP Jagatpreet Singh, led by ACP Cyber crime Jaspreet Singh and I/C Cyber Cell Jatinder Singh to nab the accused.
Acting promptly, the team traced the perpetrators to Chattisgarh and Bihar. They were arrested in co-operation with Chattisgarh and Bihar Police.
Giving information to the media, Mr Kaustubh Sharma said that following the gruesome murder of Shubhdeep Singh @ Sidhu Moosewala on 29 may in Mansa this year, these criminals used to threaten the individuals of Ludhiana and other districts of Punjab using virtual numbers on Whatsapp.
They posed as members of Lawrence Bishnoi gang and put people in fear of their life by threatening to kill them if they failed to meet their demand for ransom. They also used to send videos of Guns and loading of cartridges in magazines to instil fear of death in the victims.
So far, the Police have arrested two accused namely Shakti Singh and Afzal Abdullah from Chattisgarh and Bihar. Mr Kaustubh also said that the kingpin of this racket is within our reach will also be arrested soon. Cyber cell of Ludhiana has identified a total of 25 bank accounts being used for extorting money.
Out of this details of 5 accounts have been obtained in which total transaction of upwards of Rs. 1crore has been traced. Rs 11.76 Lac has also been recovered from various accounts. Details of 20 other accounts linked to the racket are yet to be received. Also a total of 3 mobile phones have also been recovered by the Police from the accused. Further investigation is on.
