Chandigarh, July 28:
Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Mrs. Razia Sultana, on Wednesday, appealed to the people to keep water, the precious resource of nature, clean and apt management of waste.
In a message on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day celebrating globally today, she urged the people of Punjab to take care of the nature, saying that due to human erroneous attitude, not only the environment was getting polluted day by day but also the natural water resources were being contaminated due to lack of proper waste management. And, what is ironic is many animals and plants are falling victim to this polluted atmosphere.
In view of these challenges, Mrs. Sultana said, the Punjab government has launched ‘Har Ghar Pani, Har Ghar Safai’ campaign to provide clean and pure water to all the rural households and to ensure proper management of household waste. She affirmed that the department would ensure pure and clean water supply to all the rural households of the state by 2022.
Asserting that Punjab was one of the leading states in the country where consistent water supply and efficient management of garbage was being done in the villages, the Cabinet Minister said that the state has obtained the ODF (open defecation free) status in the first phase under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). The myriad projects are being implemented for the management of liquid and solid waste in the villages and the mission will complement Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Phase II, which is aimed to promote cleanliness, hygiene through adequate solid and liquid waste management and thus achieving ODF Plus status for villages by 2024-25.
Mrs. Razia Sultana said that conservation of nature and proper use of natural resources could not be ensured without the cooperation of the people. Therefore, let us all pledge on this World Nature Conservation Day to work jointly for maintaining a healthy environment for the long life of our mother earth.
