CHANDIGARH,February 10, 2021: Slamming the AAP for shamelessly spreading canards, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Sunil Jakhar on Wednesday disclosed it was SAD led by Parkash Singh Badal who had passed the nefarious Punjab Contract Farming Act in 2013 in collusion with BJP.
It was this SAD-BJP who had dared to introduce jail term for farmers in the Budget Session of 2013 after suspending 9 Congress MLAs to throttle their voice against these draconian measures, Jakhar said showing the vidoe clips of that Session to mediapersons at Punjab Bhawan here this afternoon.
Mincing no words, the veteran Congressman lambasted AAP for siding with BJP on a sensitive issue of farmers welfare. They have bartered their souls to their political bosses in BJP and are only hellbent on defaming our farmers for their petty political aims, he added.
On Sukhbir’s absence from the ongoing Parliament Session, Jakhar quipped, “That Sukhbir has chosen MC elections over going to Parliament for raising farmers concerns against his old partners BJP shows his misplaced priorities. Watching his political base slipping away the SAD president is busy protecting his own turf rather than protecting the interests of the farmers he espouses so brazenly, Jakhar pointed out.
Throwing an open challenge to the BJP, Jakhar said that rather than making provoking statements, the party leaders should come to Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana for an open debate on three anti-farmer agriculture laws and make the farmers understand about the benefits of these laws. He also appealed to the Punjab people to not create any violence and protest peacefully and democratically.
